- Situated between Germany, France, and Belgium Luxembourg is often overlooked as a vacation destination. Â As Europe’s 7th smallest country Luxembourg is full of European charm without the hoards of tourists. Winding rivers, gorges and old medieval casemates make Luxembourg City, the capital perfect for a short trip or extended weekend.
What to expect
- Luxembourg is a country with several different languages, picturesque old scenery and plenty of hills to conquer. Easy to navigate and access with minimal tourist crowds.
Getting There
- Arriving by train is easy and direct from many major cities such as Paris and Brussels. Â At the train station you are able to get on the city bus to get around if your hotel is not near. Â Even better aside from transfer from the train station I found I was able to get to all the major places on foot with ease. Â
Where to Stay
- There are plenty of standard hotels to stay at with all the amenities. There is also a hostel in the city which is where I stayed for my short trip. (Want to know more about hostels and if they are a good option for you? Stay tuned for a post on my hosteling experiences and recommendations.) Located by a bus stop the hostel is easy to get to and a great place to set off to discover the casemates. Learn more about what I look for when booking a hostel.
-Overall, Luxembourg City is a must see if you have a couple extra days. With easy train travel from near major European cities you can make it an easy stopover or add on.
